Nikko BESS Project Selected Under METI Subsidy Program

Banpu Japan K.K. (“BJP”) is pleased to announce that the Nikko Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Project has been selected under METI’s FY2025 subsidy program.
(Grant decision date: December 25, 2025).
The Nikko BESS Project is a 40 MW / 160 MWh (EHV) grid-scale battery energy storage facility located in Kinugawa, Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, with an estimated commercial operation date (CoD) of Q2 2029.
The project is developed and invested in by BES-T1 GK, a wholly owned subsidiary of Banpu Japan K.K.
Through its integrated energy business, Banpu Japan supports the energy value chain across power generation, energy storage, and electricity trading, contributing to grid stability and the advancement of decarbonization.
Aligned with Japan’s 2030 energy transition goals, Banpu Japan continues to expand its BESS portfolio and strengthen its role in building a more resilient, low-carbon power system.​
